Imagine
a beautiful royal house with over 15,000 paintings, sculptures and graphics!
Well, welcome to the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA), which has a collection
of modern art dating from 1850s. And it is located in the royal Jaipur House,
the former residence of the Jaipur Maharajas. Both the house and the collection
is a feast to one's eyes.
Of the exhibits, one definitely has to check out the watercolours of Gaganendranath
Tagore and Nandalal Bose, the paintings of Raja Ravi Varma, Amrita Shergil's
Two Women and Abanidranath Tagore's Flower Face among the others. And among
the more recent artists, M F Hussain, Ram Kumar, Anjolie Ela Menon and K G Subramanyam
are a definite see-see. The gallery is a great place especially if one wants
to know more about Modern art. The Gallery conducts regular seminars, film shows
and study classes on art appreciation, history and conservation. It also has
a library and sales counter.

Triveni Kala Sangam
A
huge cultural complex, with four different galleries, a coffee shop and a bookshop!
One cannot ask for more. A favourite hangout with most delhiites, Triveni Kala
Sangam houses the Shridharani Gallery, Triveni Gallery, Sculpture Court and
Art Heritage. The largest gallery is the Shridharani Gallery, which holds regular,
shows by both established and young artists. The other three galleries hold
regular exhibitions.
The Sangam has an open air auditorium where regular dance and theatre performances
are held. The bookshop within the complex has a collection of unconventional
books
a great place to find books which are otherwise unavailable.
